I loved "Cappuccino" Tim Tam which I haven't found yet in Japan though.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://yao-hong.blogspot.com/2006/02/ohhhh-tim-tam.html' title='Ohhhh----! She is a great fan of Backstreet Boys. The concerts were held for two nights, on 7th and 8th, in Tokyo Dome which is a baseball stadium and used for baseball games from spring to autumn. Ayumi and her second cousin were gonna join both concerts, yesterday's and today's.

I met them today. It's been a long time since I met Ayumi last time. We said good-bye each other at Christchurch airport in New Zealand about ten months ago. She had to go back to Japan at that time.

Ayumi and her second cousin and I visited in Koishikawa Korakuen, which is a Japanese style garden located next to Tokyo Dome and had lunch in a Korean restaurant near the garden.

We chatted for a long long time, mostly about our New Zealand life. While Ayumi and I were in NZ, we hardly talked in our mother tongue Japanese. We tried to use English every time, even though we were the same nationalities (How diligent we were!!). Therefore, I found today that she used western Japanese accents when she spoke Japanese! It's really funny.

At three p.m., they went making a queue to enter the concert. We parted there. They must have had fantastic nights with the cool guys! I'm wondering if I join the concert as well as them when Backstreet Boys come to Japan next time.

This is my hometown...

This is the building of my nearest station in my hometown. We exchange post cards with our acquaintances, such as friends, co-workers, relatives and teachers with this word in New Year. Therefore, workers in post offices have to work during this term. I feel a bit sorry for them.

Not like the post office workers, I woke up very late this morning. I had special New Year's dishes called "Osechi" with my parents. Many Japanese business people will be the same.
My company gave us six days for a winter vacation. I think it's too short!!

I'm going back to my hometown tomorrow and will spend lazy days over the vacation. My hometown will be too cold to do anything!! I heard it'd snowed a lot there. This winter's been awesomely frigid everywhere in Japan. Children usually love snow but not for adults. I'll live with Kotatsu, which is a Japanese great heating system!

A Very Merry Christmas!!

<img style="DISPLAY: block; In the daytime, it was clear! I went to Tokyo by....a boat???

There's a big river called Edo river between Chiba, where I live in, and Tokyo. We usually cross bridges traversed over the river by trains or cars. It must be rare experience to cross the river by the boat!

A man slowly rowed the boat. There was nobody to talk on it. All I could hear was just the sound of paddling. The short travel seemed so peaceful.

Once upon a time, farmers living in Chiba went to Edo, which was a old name of Tokyo, by this boat because there were barriers near the bridges and farmers didn't have to pass through the barriers when they used the boat.

It's a remnant of the olden time. I turned my thoughts toward the people living a long time ago.

And one more thing I must mention is the cost! It cost only a hundred yen!(about a US dollar).
However, I don't know how much the farmers paid at that time.

Got a delicious chiffon cake!

I won a prize! This "Soki Soba" noodles are eaten in this island. The island has unique culture which's different from my hometown. Threrofre, this noodles weren't familiar to me before.
When this noodles are served, there must be boiled pork. (I spent two days making the boiled pork!) I added a half-boiled egg with soy sauce taste. (It's my favourite!)
I had them deliciously. Gochiso sama deshita! To be honest, I just used special stickers for my nails!

BBQ in a highland

Three girls, six boys and a cute girl's baby went to a highland in Nagano, Japan to have a BBQ party!

Now Japan is in the middle of summer but it was cold today. I've got a part-time job in this summer.
This evening I went to an Asian restaurant with my co-workers and boss. I met the popular charming Prince William! I never expected such a lucky day would come on my life!

The Prince had been in New Zealand for a couple of weeks to encourage the U.K. rugby team Lions. Last night all games were over, so I believed that he'd already gone to the U.K.

At this time, we tried to enter to Auckland museum. As we reached the entrance, we saw a crowd in front of it. We asked someone what the crowd was for with wonder. To our surprises, he told us the Prince was in the museum now! I was so excited!

Thirty or forty minutes after waiting for him, finally the lovely guy came out! Wow...cute, isn't he? It's the biggest city in New Zealand. There're skyscrapers and piles of people which I never saw in Christchurch.

Today we went to an small island by a ferry. In the morning it drizzled but when we got the ferry, it'd already stopped and the huge rainbow suddenly appeared! I gasped with surprise!

After that we tramped in the island and had yum Indian curry at lunch time.

This evening New Zealanders had an important event. A rugby game between All Blacks and Lions! My ex-class mate in an English school Pascal joined us and four of us went to the bar in Auckland sky tower to watch the rugby game. People in the bar already looked so enthusiastic. Of course, so did we! As the result of the game, All Blacks was so cool and too aggressive. They defeated Lions again! We cheered over the wonderful victory each other.

A mysterious place, Waitomo

After staying two nights in Rotorua, we left for a small town Waitomo. Our lodging was at a little bit inconvenient place. I think for that reason, it cost a few but the atmosphere was so warm. I loved it!

We tossed out our backpacks and went to Waitomo cave. It was definitely a mysterious place.
First, we were taken to a limestone cave. There were hundreds of strange stalactites like the photo shows. Some of them were alike something such as animals or so on.

Next, it was time to enter the famous cave where special worms which gleamed in dark ranged. We could watch them from a boat. Before I set off this journey, this cave was the most attractive place to come for me. And the result met my expectation! It never disappointed me. The sight was much more impressive than I imagined!! I confused where I was because it looked lile outer space.... I couldn't think of anything for a while after coming out of the cave.

The thermal wonderland in Rotorua

We spent a night in Palmerston North and two nights in Taupo and then came to Rotorua yesterday. It was lovely day today and the sights from the cable car's windows were fantastic!

On the top of the hill, there was a botanical garden. Of course, we had a walk there. In the garden, we found a museum which seemed to be concerned about astronomy. A staff member of the museum let us look at the sun by a big telescope. The garden was wide, so we ended up being under the hill after the walk.

Around 8 p.m., we took a coach to go to the next destination Palmerston North. The coach should have taken us to the next town for two hours but it couldn't. Unfortunately, this night it was gusty and the crowded coach couldn't run the high way because of the weight. All passengers had to wait until another coach came on the halfway point and separate.

We waited for two hours after all. The coach was timetabled to arrive at Palmerston North on 9:54 p.m. but it was over 12 a.m. when we arrived. All staff of a backpacker's hotel which we booked looked so sullen that we woke them up in such midnight ;-(

At Wellington

I flew to Wellington in the afternoon. It was the first time I visited the north island of New Zealand. In the city centre, I went to the information centre to meet my friends Yasu, a Japanese and Min Seok, a Korean who had already arrived in the morning. They are my company in this trip. I wanted to go sightseeing as soon as I met them, but they did it before I came here. They also said they had been to all sights. I was a bit disappointed about thier opinions. They suggested seeing a film in stead of going sightseeing. It was nearly 5 p.m. I thought I couldn't go sightseeing today, so I decided to follow them.
The film we saw was absolutely worthless but I laughed a lot because of the "cheap" story.
After the film we met a Swiss guy Carlo who used to be our classmate in a language school. He brought two cute German girls as well. Six of us went to a bar and had tasty pizzas and a wonderful time.

Leaving Christchurch

In the morning I checked out of YHA. After spending for some time in an Internet cafe, I went to the Japanese restaurant called "Kohan" which meant "shore" in Japanese to have lunch. There's only a Japanese restaurant in Tekapo. The most famous dish in this restaurant must be "Natto and salmon sashimi with rice". These days New Zealand people like having sashimi (sliced raw fish) but natto couldn't be popular! It's traditional Japanese food which's made of soya beans by being fermented. It smells awful but tastes terrific! There's "Salmon sashimi with rice" dish without natto. It's also great!

In the evening I came back to Christchurch which is my stronghold while I was in New Zealand.
On the coach from Tekapo to Christchurch I met a Japanese girl. Her situation was very simmilar to mine, so we enjoyed chatting during the travel.
After arriving in Christchurch, I met my Japanese friend Takuya. It'd been a few months since I met him the last time. He told funny stories which made me laugh.
Tonight I stayed another Japanese friend's flat. We talked until midnight. Tekapo is a small town, but it's famous for a beautiful lake and the clear night sky.
Because of the fact that the fine weather rate is quite high and there's no light pollution there, there's a university observatory. The reason I visited here was also that I longed to watch the stars.
As soon as I checked in at the YHA, I called the star-watching tour organiser. The person talking on the phone told me that there might not be enough people to make the tour and the weather might be getting worse. I had to wait until 7 p.m. to hear the decision.
Fortunately, I was given the tour. As I saw the starry sky, no word came out of my mouth. It was totally magnificent!! The huge Milky Way lay down the sky and looked like real clouds. In the Milky Way, the Southern Cross sparkled holily.
I felt my soul shaken strongly by emotion. I couldn't help staring at the awesome sight for a long time.

The last day

Today was the last day which I spent with my home stay family. I was so excited! Today the New Zealand national rugby team called All Blacks did battle against Lions which came from England.
In the daytime the city centre was crowded by hundreds of rugby supporters. (Notice the photo on the right!) The weather was lovely, so everyone must have expected a good game in a good condition. But we shouldn't forget the fact that the weather in Christchurch is bloody changeable.
Typically, it was getting worth and worth. As the game started, it stated raining.
In spite of the bad condition, the players showed us fantastic performances! As far as I know, Prince William was also there, but I couldn't see him on TV. That was a pity!
In the end, All Blacks beaten up Lions. I studied with them for only two weeks, but they still remembered me.
After chatting for a while, Hiromi called her male friend Katsu-san and he offered to take us to a Chinese restaurant to have dinner.
Even though it was a weekday, the restaurant was crowded. We smacked our lips over the dim-sum.
During dinner, we were talking about ghosts. Hiromi knew a girl who often meets ghosts.
None of us has met a ghost, so we had a heated discussion for a long time.
According to the girl's story, we're protected by one or more ghosts. I wondered what the ghost which protects me is like.

Chat, chat, chat!

I met one of my Japanese friends Emina this afternoon and chatted for a long time. It's been three or more months since I chatted such a long time with her.
I've been in Christchurch in New Zealand for about ten months and am leaving soon, so I wanted to say goodbye to her.We talked about lots of topics, such as our friends, New Zealand, Japan, our future and so on.
When I'm speaking my mother tongue, Japanese, I sometimes find it difficult. English words come out before Japanese words from time to time. But it's a bit sad it doesn't happen everytime, just occasionally. I must study more English!
As we were parting, we promised to meet each other in Tokyo, Japan.
How many friends should I say goodbye from now on?
The rest of my NZ life is few...

Reborn!!

Today is my birthday.
